Square One endorses Chris Jones (AR-02)
Today, Square One announced its endorsement of Chris Jones for Congress in Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District, backing a rocket scientist, minister, and working parent.
“Chris is the kind of leader that Arkansas families need right now. He is a visionary that can bring solutions to Congress,” said Tony Vargas, Executive Director of Square One.
As a son of Pine Bluff, he’s rooted in faith, family, service, and a commitment to telling the truth and fighting for a future that works for all of us. He earned two degrees from Morehouse College, then two Masters and a PhD from MIT. His life’s work has been about building bridges – between faith and science, between rural towns and urban centers, across generations.
“Arkansans deserve someone who will fight for affordability, accountability, and opportunity for all. As a dad to three girls, Chris understands the struggles that too many Arkansas families are facing – they are working harder than ever, yet groceries, healthcare, housing, childcare, and energy costs are rising faster than paychecks. Chris will bring his experience building bridges to Congress and be a champion for working families. Chris is three points ahead in the polls. He will be facing GOP Rep. French Hill in the general election. Hill, who chairs the Financial Services Committee and doesn’t care about the working class – he has made things more challenging for families who are stretched too thin by rising costs. AR-02 expands the map for Democrats, increasing chances of taking back the House in November.
Square One supports and invests in high-potential Democratic women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ candidates running in competitive districts across the country. When Chris is elected in November, he will be the first Black member of Congress from Arkansas.
